Samantha Roberts

Samantha Roberts is an Executive Partner of Syncona Investment Management Ltd.

Samantha served as Chief Executive of NICE for four years from February 2022, bringing over 20 years of experience across clinical, operational, private sector, and academic roles in healthcare. Originally trained as a doctor, she subsequently completed an MBA and joined McKinsey & Company before dedicating her career to improving quality of care and accelerating health innovation.

During her tenure at NICE, she oversaw a 25% increase in the speed of assessments of new medicines, delivered a 30-fold increase in digital and AI technology evaluations undertaken by NICE and implemented new frameworks for evaluating interventions addressing health inequalities and severe diseases. Prior to NICE, Sam was Managing Director, Health & Care at Legal & General, and before that served as Chief Executive of the Accelerated Access Collaborative and Director of Innovation, Research and Life Sciences at NHS England. Earlier roles included Head of Operations at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and research positions at the London School of Economics.

Sam holds a medical degree, an MBA, and a DPhil in Evidence-Based Health Care from the University of Oxford.
